John's Gospel is the only one to record this miracle which Jesus did in response to a pressing social and cultural need. To run out of wine at a wedding feast would bring disgrace on the families - but Jesus responds by creating an abundant, lavish and generous amount of wine - as much as 454 litres more than 500 bottles of wine.
